Liver is concentrated in vitamin A. Vitamin A supports digestion, supports the immune system and keeps the organs to function properly.
It’s recommended not to feed over 5% of the dog’s diet when feeding liver (2-3% for duck and ruminant animals like beef, lamb and goat).
Over feeding liver can have adverse effects known as vitamin A toxicity. This recommendation applies to raw liver, freeze-dried liver and dehydrated liver because vitamin A is not easily destroyed by heat.
Feeding liver in moderation is beneficial but using too much liver for training is not recommended. When selecting training treats, look for muscle meats like heart, gizzard, lung, tripe and other muscular meat.
